A woman lies sleeping on the stone. At first glance it looks quiet, almost passive, but it isn’t. In front of the Forbidden City, Cui Xiuwen shows her refusing the posture of control the space demands. While the other figures keep moving in step, she drops out of the performance. Desire here isn’t about being looked at. It’s the need to exist on her own terms, unguarded and real.
